Confetti Avenues

Confetti Avenues by Debra Hood

A bounty of colour provides a playful summery image of Queenslander architecture in Brisbane avenues.

Brisbane’s suburban streetscapes are often covered in the blossoms of purple Jacaranda flowers, Poinciana red and green, Yellow and Pink Penda Tree, Flame Trees and so many more. This painting pays reverence to the romance of the Queenslander house and the unique colours of Brisbane. The Brisbane City skyline across the top reveals a number of iconic structures; The Gabba, Kurilpa Bridge, Brisbane Wheel, City Hall and the Story Bridge.

All the Queenslanders in the Avenues show the variation in vintage, style and detail that these domestic dwellings hold. Always wanting the viewer to engage with my work on a physically close level, I hide small animals, birds and objects to be discovered amongst the confetti like foliage.

Confetti Avenues is a digital reworking of the original artwork by Debra Hood titled Brisbane Confetti With a Violet Blush (2020).
